We Love Weekends in Niagara Falls Ontario for these Reasons
Do you enjoy weekend getaways? We certainly do. It is a feeling of relief from the constant daily pressures and perhaps an escape from the ordinary. This year as you know Canada is turning 150 years old. She’s an old babe accepting visitors by the droves to help her celebrate this momentous occasion. In fact, the Canadian Government supplied every province with funding to promote the big day with parties, contests, festivals, and even a giant rubber ducky floating at Toronto ’s harbour….no exaggeration. That $200,000 duck sits proudly off Lakeshore. So with this surge of excitement it goes without saying that Canadians and visitors need to join in on the party. So why not head to the beautiful Niagara region where romance is prevalent, the wine is overflowing, and the Falls leave us speechless?
Things to Do in Niagara Falls
1 – The Obvious, Head to the Horseshoe Falls!
The Canadian Niagara Falls are utterly breathtaking. I may be biased, but I do feel the horseshoe falls are superior to the American ones. This is not taking away from the majesty of the American site, but the pure size and beauty of the horseshoe just gives the Canadian side an impressive picturesque nudge. There are many ways to enjoy your time here near the edge.
Get up close and personal with the “Journey Behind the Falls” sporting a very fashionable yellow poncho! Hear the power of the waters around you as you learn further of the newly crowned 10th Wonder of the World’s interesting history. Next, embark on the White Water Walk for further inside views only accessible in the summer months.
Check out the new Hornblower Boat Ride
I was on the fence about this new attraction at Niagara. The Maid in the Mist was such a classic staple of the horseshoe falls with visitors wearing the classic blue ponchos emulating Jim Carrey in the classic film Bruce Almighty. As it now lives in the Canadian side’s history, why not give the new Hornblower a whirl?
Now passengers (up to 700 per tour!) dawn red raincoats in the all-new experience. Choose among a variety of ride times including day tours, illumination cruises, and special firework extravaganzas in the evening. More about this experience coming soon to the blog!
Face Niagara’s Fury!
Delve into history and learn all about the ancient times of Niagara’s first days. Immerse yourself right into the fury with low temperatures, snow and a moving platform at your feet. Enjoy gorgeous panoramic views of the Niagara River as recreated in an incredible sights and sounds simulation.
Take a Spin on the Skywheel
Are you a fan of the London Eye in London? If you are, than you will love Niagara’s Skywheel. See the horseshoe falls from a bird’s eye view and beyond. It towers above the falls at 175 feet giving you perfect vantage points for those gorgeous aerial photographs. What makes this even more special is that it is weather-friendly with heating in the winter and air conditioning in the summer!
The Butterfly Conservatory
Explore the Butterfly Conservatory right in the heart of Niagara. Enjoy being surrounded by over 2000 free-flying butterflies all around you! Enjoy seeing rare species among the rest from such areas of the world as Central America, Southeast Asia and North America. While here check out the Emergence Window where you just may see a butterfly come out of a cocoon!
Check Out the Botanical Gardens
The Botanical Gardens are such a beautiful sight to see in the heart of Niagara! Enjoy nearly 100 acres of lush gardens, flowers, and shrubbery established back in 1936. See beautiful displays of perennials, seasonal blooms, azaleas, herbs, foliage, vegetables, and a world-famous rose garden holding 2400 beautiful roses.
Explore Clifton Hill
Clifton Hill is an essential stop on your Niagara Falls visit. There are fun houses, museums, haunted houses, sweet parlours, games, and more. Enjoy a round of miniature golf among dinosaur displays, walk through a hall of distorted mirrors, or challenge your friends to a game of Fruit Ninja on giant screens. Ripley’s Believe it or Not! features an incredible array of fun facts and figures from around the world, and check out the wax museum featuring all your favourite celebrities in incredible likenesses. You won’t be disappointed.
Grab a Dessert at the Official Hershey Shop
Listen up chocoholics! This is Canada’s answer to Cadbury! Head to the Hershey shop and grab a delightful treat! Enjoy handcrafted fudge, ice cream, and personalized chocolate bars as you admire the various nostalgic signs and collectibles. Head to the indoor waterfall and snap a pic with the other Hershey kiss waiting for you to pucker up. Some sweets are too good to keep to yourself! Why not share a chocolate cookie sandwich, slab of fudge, or a North American classic s’more!
This beautiful area of Ontario is such a gold mine for sights, scenery, fun, flavours, and overall getaway perfection. Head here for a once in a lifetime Canada 150 celebration, or simply for a relaxing trip away from everyday life. The choice is yours.
