This No Fail Ultimate ABC Destination Bucket List Is All You Need
I seriously have the longest destination bucket list known to humankind. Seriously I do. All you wanderlusters out there may wish to disagree, but really, it grows daily and I sometimes must pick a place out of a hat. Crazy I know, but at least I have found a creative way to determine my next destination. Another way is to be inspired by lists and articles. So to help out even the less-seasoned traveller, I have devised the ultimate bucket list ABC-style to help you find the right destination for the trip of a lifetime.
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
How can you go wrong with a land of canals and coffee shops? Head to this splendid Netherlands capital for an all-round European trip complete with unique architecture, signature cuisine, and a world famous quirkiness attracting thousands yearly. Rent a bicycle and ride alongside canals before jumping aboard a sunset cruise eating wine and cheese as you pass notable landmarks. Be humbled at Anne Frank’s Huis, craft a Heineken beer, and marvel at original Vincent Van Gogh artwork. This is truly a destination bucket list must for any traveller looking for a little of everything in a destination.
Bora Bora – French Polynesia
A true lover’s paradise in the exclusive French Polynesia, most only dream to get to a place like this. A haven that is remote with overwater bungalows, clear blue waters, and a welcoming community, a trip here would definitely be a dream come true. Immerse yourself in luxury as you relax on the beach, rejuvenate your senses and pinch yourself that you are actually on this island that few experience, but many aspire to visit. Needless to say it is high up there on my destination bucket list….
Cinque Terre – Italy
5 small villages that come together as one of the most colourful and unique areas of Italy imaginable. This is Cinque Terre. A place where natural disaster pillaged the streets, leaving it requiring repairs yet it prevailed and attracts thousands of visitors yearly to catch a glimpse of its beauty and more so its resilience against strife. Enjoy a glass of wine, a cannoli, and views unlike any other as you start your YOLO journal complete with photos you never thought you would take.
No destination bucket list would be complete with a city in the heart of the Emerald Isle. A nation that was riddled with conflict over the years, and to this day, continues to struggle with various peace setbacks, the Republic of Ireland is a scenic masterpiece of lush backdrops, history, culinary treats, and mystical folklore shaping this nation to what it is today. Head to Dublin the capital and indulge in crafted Guinness, marvel at ancient books composed by monks, and see if you find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Edinburgh , Scotland
Bring on the kilts, bagpipes, and haggis should you feel so inclined – you are in Edinburgh, one of the most beautiful and vibrant cities in the UK. This city brings history, culture, music, beauty, and some of the best shopping you could want. A gorgeous historic town full of flavour and flair, Florence is the perfect destination for the foodies and artsy folk in the group. Check out the Birth of Venus at the Uffizi before climbing the gorgeous Duomo for panoramic views of the city. Hungry? Florence has some of the most amazing gelaterias in all of Italy! Now who doesn’t like being surrounded by gorgeous mountain ranges? Geneva, located within the famed Swiss Alps, is the perfect haven for the skier, snowboarder, and photographer in your group. Plus, the chocoholics will seriously embrace this city once they enjoy a good dose of some of the best in the world.
This country is a jewel in Europe. It truly has so much to offer with gorgeous architecture, delicious cuisine, and poignant landmarks that all should see in their lifetime. Take a cruise on the Danube and marvel at the beautiful parliament buildings at night. Check out the wine bars in the Jewish Quarter. Eat a strudel with a bespoke coffee at one of the many independent cafes. Or simply stroll through the charming streets waving to locals as you snap a selfie before soaking in a Hungarian Bath. Take a step into a different world that brings a kaleidoscope of cultures and colours to travellers. The Canadian Rockies are majestic and completely mesmerizing to all who visit. In one’s lifetime a visit to Jasper Alberta is essential. Hike in Jasper National Park, snap incredible photos of Jasper Lake, and enjoy a campfire amongst some of the most pristine backdrops in the world.
Koh Samui, Thailand
This is such a gorgeous island in the country of Thailand. On the South end of the country, Koh Samui attracts thousands yearly to take in the scenery, beautiful coral reefs, unique markets, and delightful night life. London , England
One of my favourite cities in the whole world, London is a must for any destination bucket list. A city that has history, culture, gastronomy, and an unmatched buzz, visitors are certain to find something to do, enjoy, experience, or eat that will leave everlasting memories. Of course South America has made the list with such a vibrant and beautiful city like Montevideo. Enjoy colonial style homes, fresh empanadas for a taste of the glorious Spanish culture, and a mountain range you have always dreamed of. New York City, USA
Come visit Carrie Bradshaw on one of the most hopping islands out there! Manhattan! This fun and thriving city is full of things to do, bars to visit, attractions to experience, and shops to introduce your credit card. Head to Central Park for a leisurely walk or horse and buggy ride, shop on 5th Avenue and see just where Audrey Hepburn was enthralled, and climb up the Empire State Building to see incredible Panoramic views of the city. Hungry? Check out the Serendipity Cafe where they filmed the movie of the same name! Grab a Frooozzzen hot chocolate before taking in one of the hit Broadway shows near Times Square. Truly a spot not to be missed by any traveller in his or her lifetime.
Canada’s capital is one of the most interesting places you can visit! Enjoy free tours of Parliament, learn about the development and process of making Canada’s coin currency at the Royal Canadian Mint, or gaze at the sea of tulips during the annual festival. Paris , France
Ah Paris. A city that will always be dear to my heart. My mother always says to have an updated passport as you never know when you will be invited to Paris for lunch. Truth be told, I wouldn’t be able to pass that up either! Head here for romance, beauty, and sites unlike anywhere else. Take in the Eiffel Tower and eat at the exclusive Jules Verne restaurant right within the tower. Munch on French pastry before walking along the Seine and visiting Mona at the Louvre. Love shopping? The Champs Elysees has everything you will need before enjoying the classic Moulin Rouge show amidst the vibrant Parisian nightlife. Paris is indeed famous for love, sites, and food. Queenstown, New Zealand
No destination bucket list would be complete without including a town that is the ultimate haven for adrenaline junkies surrounded by some of the most gorgeous scenery in the world. Queenstown is a one-stop shop for those who wish to bungee jump, skydive, go jet boat riding, horseback riding and many more. Wanting a less extreme experience? Enjoy meals by the water, sightseeing trips, and lunch cruises on the pristine lake. If you are a wildlife lover, do head to the Kiwi Birdlife Park for the only place in the South Island to see the elusive Kiwi bird!
With all the hype and coverage of this country, it shouldn’t be any surprise that it has made the cut on my ABC bucket list. Check out the beautiful waterfalls, glaciers, hot springs, geysers, and just where Bjork grew to become on of the quirkiest artists in the world. Head to the popular Blue Lagoon for a soak and rest before sampling some delicious Icelandic cuisine.
I would be in serious trouble from my Aussie hubby if I didn’t include this incredible city on this destination bucket list. Smirk. Sydney is an absolute must for any Australian holiday! The harbour is a thriving centre of sites, sounds, shops, food, and more. Take in an opera at the famous Sydney Opera House, walk along the harbour, buy some authentic souvenirs, eat at a patio cafe, and climb the Harbour Bridge at sundown. These are just a few gems right in the heart of one of Australia’s most beautiful cities.
For those out there who long to do an African trip full of wildlife, natural wonders, and interesting culture, Tanzania is for you. After embarking on a pleasureful safari ogling the elephants, lions, and the rest of the Big 5, take a boat to the secluded island of Zanzibar for a much-deserved rest on the beach.
A secluded and rugged terrain, cultural magnificence, and some of the most incredible scenery you could ask for awaits in Ulaan Baatar Mongolia. Stay with the locals in your own yurt, grab the Trans Mongolian Railway, or simply soak up the sights. The Mongolian people are as friendly as can be and will provide yo with some of the best experiences great hosts are known for.
A place with symphonies, minuets, strudel, and Sacher Torte, Vienna is the perfect quintessential European city for a quick stop or getaway on any Europe vacation, earning its spot in our destination bucket list. Austria has some of the best cuisine in the world and in Vienna you will fine them all. Have some homemade schnitzel, cheese-stuff wurst, and apple strudel, then wash it down with a refreshing Almdudler or Viennese coffee. Truly a perfect Bavarian dream. Head to the State of pineapples and leis! The Hawaiian Islands have been a favourite vacation spot for years and a popular destination for honeymoons. This beautiful State within the South Pacific boasts incredible beaches, plentiful flavours, and an ambiance perfect for a relaxing holiday. Waikiki has some beautiful secluded beaches and resorts to turn up the spice in any relationship, has incredible parties for all ages, and attractions suited for everyone in the family. It is no wonder it is on many a destination bucket list and should also be on yours.
Now, China is one of my favourite countries on earth for travel. It has so many beautiful sites, it has a hopping atmosphere, and a quirkiness that is symbolic of the nation as a whole. Xi’an makes my list as it is home to one of the most fascinating landmarks in the entire country. This densely populated city is home of the mysterious and impeccable Terracotta warriors. These meticulously detailed statues were discovered by a farmer in the late 70’s and has been on public display ever since. After a day of sightseeing, why not indulge with a dumpling feast? Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico
Crystal clear waters, ancient ruins, secluded swimming, and wildlife watches, brings Yucatán to our destination bucket list. Here you can marvel at such history as the Mayan Ruins, you can sip on a pina colada as you lie on the beach resting between snorkeling sessions, and you can watch the hours slip by as you soak up the culture and ambiance of such a beautiful area of this Central American country.
A city whose watched its tourism soar in the last few years, Zagreb is at the heart of some of Europe’s most popular vacation spots. Enjoy the cultural side with local music, history, and cuisine, combined with relaxing beaches, boutique shops, and vibrant night life dance clubs and beach bars. The historian in the group will love the array of museums and galleries that shape Croatia to where it is today within the beautiful Balkan area of Europe.
