Wishes For All to See the World Were Sent to Santa This Year
Most of us have heard of Virginia, the little girl who wrote to a local paper wondering if there really is a Santa Claus. (blog post coming soon about this inquisitive little girl!). She got a heartwarming reply on how Santa Claus truly exists. The spirit of that letter has continued to flourish through the decades with children and adults keeping Santa’s image, legacy, and spirit alive even in the most stressful times or those moments were doubt overwhelms our minds. The next installment in our Santa Letters from Travellers brings a heartfelt wish. Stephanie, the voice behind Road Unraveled and this wonderful Twitter page, extended wishes for everyone to more time off and for All to See the World. A truly meaningful and selfless request, read her letter for the true meaning of Christmas.
Thank you for making all of my 2017 travel dreams come true this year! I thought I was asking for too much, but you really delivered with visits to Marrakesh to sleep in the desert and cuddle baby goats, Krakow to eat my weight in perogies, and Panama City to see the famous Canal. Just when I thought the year couldn’t get better, I took a transatlantic cruise from Copenhagen to Miami that gave me a chance to rest, relax, and enjoy some much-needed time with my wonderful parents. I still can’t believe my ultimate travel wish will come true just before Christmas when I get to set foot on Antarctica! I’m not sure what I did to deserve such an incredible travel year, but I bet it has something to do with the extra cookies I left for you last year—or the extra carrots I left for Rudolph and the reindeer. I’ll be sure to do the same thing this year. I’ll even spring for some organic carrots and cookies with extra sprinkles!
This year my travel wish is a little different. I have been really fortunate to travel as much as I have over the last couple of years. You know that my husband Adam and I are planning for some great adventures next year, and we’ve been saving our money to make sure we can travel to some new and exciting spots around the world. Instead of wishing for my own travel opportunities, I am asking you to make travel more accessible, making possible for All to See the World.
Travel has become a lot more complicated than it used to be. A lot of people worry that if they take too many vacation days they might lose their jobs or their co-workers might see them as less dedicated or motivated. Many people don’t have the money to travel; it can be prohibitively expensive to budget for a vacation, especially if you want to go far from home. With all of those obstacles, it’s no wonder people have bucket lists they don’t think they will ever finish!
The world is a stressful place these days, and we all could use a vacation. This year, I am asking you to give us all some time off. I know you can understand; you and your team of elves work really hard during the months before Christmas, and it must be hard to stay up all night delivering gifts on Christmas Eve. I know you like to take some well-earned time off after the last present reaches its destination. We’re all working really hard, too. If you could help to remove some of the barriers to travel that would be wonderful. Encourage our bosses to be more understanding when we ask for a week off to explore a new city or to lie on the beach. Make airfare and hotels more affordable so it doesn’t take us months—or years—to save up for a trip. Travel is an incredible way to let people learn about and connect to each other, and we should all have the chance to benefit from a great trip or two.
It’s a lot to ask, Santa, but I know I can count on you. If anyone can give the world a vacation, it’s definitely you! Thanks in advance—and look for a cup of hot cocoa to go with your cookies at my house this year!
